10 Tips To Help You Finally Crush Your New Year’s Health And Wellness Goals
As we welcome a new year filled with opportunities, growth, and new goals, we want to help you finally crush your New Year’s health and wellness goals!
It’s probably safe to say at least one of your goals is related to your health and wellness.
A lot of people set goals in the New Year but only a tiny percentage of those people follow through. Research from the University of Scranton suggests that just 8% of people achieve their New Year’s goals.
So, what can you do to ensure you are not part of that 8%? Well, I’m glad you asked! Here are ten tips to help you crush your New Year’s health and wellness goals.
10 TIPS TO HELP YOU FINALLY CRUSH YOUR NEW YEAR’S HEALTH AND WELLNESS GOALS
1. DETERMINE YOUR “WHY”
Determining your why is a crucial first step to finding success in many areas of life. And, it can make all the difference when it comes to goal setting and follow-through.
Keeping your why at the forefront of all you do will help you to make good decisions. It will also keep you focused, passionate, and motivated. Most importantly remembering your why will help you align back to your values. Write down your “why” for each goal you set, place it somewhere you will see it daily, and keep coming back to it.
2. BE REALISTIC
Keep your goals realistic. If you’re not currently a runner, the chances that you will be able to run a marathon in 3 months may be a bit out of your reach. Instead, set smaller goals, and once you accomplish those, you will have the momentum to keep heading towards your bigger, dream goals.
3. FOCUS ON ONE THING AT A TIME
Setting too many goals at once is overwhelming and is sure to lead to burnout. Instead, set a few goals to start. As you check them off your list, add new ones.
A great exercise to complete before the New Year is to jot down all the things you want to accomplish (both big and small) on a piece of paper. Then, prioritize and select just a few to start.
As the year goes on, check off goals as they are completed and then prioritize new ones. At the end of the year, you can look back at your master goal list and celebrate all that you accomplished.
4. GIVE YOURSELF TIME
Accept that nothing happens overnight. Setting goals and working towards them can be a long process. Achieving goals quickly may seem great. However, the reality is when we slow down we learn and grow in the process.
We need to create new habits to not only complete our goals but to stick to them in the long term.
5. SCHEDULE IT AND COMMIT TO YOURSELF
Would you commit to a friend for coffee and not show up? I’m certain your answer is NO! Yet, this is what many of us do when it comes to ourselves.
Commitment to yourself should be the same as a good friend. On Sunday night, plan your week out. Schedule in the things you need to do to ensure you stick to the goals you set. Whether that’s a workout class, going grocery shopping or meal prepping.
6. FIND SUPPORT
Some can stick to their goals all on their own. However, others need support and encouragement to help them stay accountable.
If you can relate, find an accountability partner. Together you will inspire and motivate each other.
7. FAILURES ARE OUR GREATEST TEACHERS
Ups and downs are a normal part of life. Demonstrating grit and staying the course when things get tough will only make you stronger in the end. Accept that you are going to have failures.
Don’t be hard on yourself! Instead, ask what happened, what you learned, and how you can do better next time. Then, move forward.
8. CELEBRATE THE SMALL STUFF
Often we look past our small accomplishments, but what I have found is the small stuff is what matters most. The more we take the time to celebrate the small wins, the more inspired we will be to keep going.
Acknowledge your wins daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly!
9. BE GRATEFUL
Each day, express gratitude. Be thankful for the moment you are in, for the work you are doing, and for the process you are going through. Approaching goal setting with a grateful heart will lead to great things.
10. SHARE YOUR STORY
Stories inspire others and create a connection like nothing else can. Sharing your personal journey will not only be meaningful to you, but you never know who else it may help along the way.
This year, you don’t have to be in the 8%. Use these tips as tools to ensure your success all year long. Spend some time and think about all you want to accomplish and know everything is achievable if you put in the work!
Cheers to the New Year and all the goals you set!
