5 Ways to Use Your Struggle to Find Your Purpose
What if I told you your greatest struggle could be the best thing that ever happens to you? It could even help to reveal your life’s purpose.
Well, guess what? That is exactly what happened to me.
Struggles are an inevitable part of human existence. (We gotta take the good with the bad!)
It won’t look the same for everyone, but there is certainty that you will struggle with something in your lifetime. Whether it is related to health, money, relationships, or a million other things, you WILL cross paths with struggle at some point.
I personally think that struggle gets a bad rap. Here’s what I have found through my own personal experience: Struggle can be one of the greatest gifts we will ever receive!
It’s all about perspective, my friend! It also comes down to what we choose to do with our struggles. Struggles may even help lead you to finding more purpose in your life — as it did for me.
I am not sure about you, but I have read A LOT of books on finding purpose in life. While these books have been insightful, it was not until I was faced with my own diagnosis of two autoimmune conditions that I believe I found my true purpose.
Now, this did not just happen overnight. It took time and more importantly… trust.
When you go searching for something instead of trusting in the process and embracing life’s difficulties, it is hard to find what you are looking for.
One of the greatest mistakes you can make when it comes to finding your purpose is striving for it. Constantly searching and obsessing over trying to find your purpose in life is where it’s easy to go wrong!
CAN YOU RELATE?
I have spent much of my adult life searching for my purpose, all to come up empty-handed. A few years into my health struggle, it became clear to me that my struggles with health were not really struggles, after all.
This part of my journey was an opportunity to learn more about myself. To grow, develop, and to tap into my innate passions and talents — all of which lead me to find my purpose!
You are probably wondering, “What do I believe my purpose is?”
I believe it is more than one thing. However, what I know in my heart to be my greatest purpose is to support and inspire others struggling with their health.
My own struggle led me right to this very moment, and now I am not only doing what I love, but I am making an impact in others’ lives as well.
5 WAYS TO USE YOUR STRUGGLE TO FIND YOUR PURPOSE
Over the years, through my own struggle, I have learned a lot about finding purpose. Below are the top five things I have learned and that I know will be helpful for you on your journey.
Start applying at least one of these into your life right now, and I guarantee you will feel and experience a shift.
What I always like to say is, “Struggle is where the magic happens!” It really is! Just wait, you’ll see!
1. TRUST IN YOUR JOURNEY
Believe that you are right where you are supposed to be. Listen to your heart and your inner voice and let it guide you. It will lead you exactly where you need to go.
2. STRUGGLES ARE NEEDED FOR GROWTH
It’s tough to admit it, but your struggles are a great teacher, and you are experiencing them for a reason. They give you an opportunity to learn more about yourself and even change directions if that’s part of your journey!
3. DON’T FIGHT IT
Take a big, ol’ breath and embrace it! Embrace all of life’s difficulties with gratitude, a happy heart, and an open mind.
Fighting isn’t fun, trust me! Let your journey unfold, and be curious as it does!
4. CHANGE IS A-OK
Your purpose may (and probably will) change throughout your lifetime. As your mission evolves over time, roll with it! Do not get trapped in the notion that you have only one purpose… FOREVER!
5. LIFE IS GOOD (SERIOUSLY, SO GOOD!)
Focus on living a fulfilled life. This is the step that takes the cake! Your purpose may simply be to do exactly what you are doing right now, or it can be to go and rappel down a mountain! Everyone’s purpose is different!
Whatever it is, it’s YOUR journey! Make it beautiful!
PERSPECTIVE IS EVERYTHING
I am not saying you have to suffer from a chronic illness to find your life’s purpose. In fact, I hope you don’t have to.
What I am saying is to think about how your current struggles may be leading you closer to your life’s purpose! We are all on a beautiful journey, and it is all about how we choose to receive it!
